Despite a strong local presence, when the Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) reached out for help it suffered from a strong visual disconnect in its overall image. The inconsistency in MoPA’s image reflected negatively in the organization’s attempt to gain recognition and growth through membership, sales and marketing, and donation channels. The solution for MoPA was built on the organization’s reputation for presenting the full spectrum of the photographic medium.

To mark the first phase of MoPA’s new image development, we kicked off with the exhibition, ‘Picturing Eden.’ The goal, conceived and executed a comprehensive visual program including the exhibition announcement, environmental and wayfinding graphics, and a new MoPA membership brochure. Visual highlights include updating the original MoPA logo and typographical refinement, cross media color matching, and standardizing usage to support brand recognition. The exhibition was a great success and launched the next series of marketing initiatives which included templateing of the exhibition announcements for internal usage and design consultation for its website. We also provide the creative for the invitation and regeistration to MoPA’s Academy Awards Gala, a Oscar Night America event.

Our introduction to Pappalecco came from a lunch recommendation. We had a wonderful lunch, enjoyed the personal service, and topped it off with an refreshing Affogotto. Pappalecco “is an Adventure Through the Truth of Italy”, Food, Culture, Art, Style… Essences of Italy.” Our relationship with Francesco and Lorenzo Bucci started after the brothers had journeyed from Pisa, landed in San Diego’s Little Italy, and made their dream a reality with their first restaurant opening.

Our first project was to design and develop its Website which included the restaurant as well as a unique section highlighting Pappalecco Travel, an exclusive offering of itinerary packages thru North, Central, and Southern Italy. This custom integration features a dynamic javascript map that gives the visitor browsing control throughout the map and the destinations. We closed out the online needs with a WordPress Blog and Enewsletter marketing solution. Working with there existing logo we finalized the brands typography usage, created taglines, and formalized the color palette. We then updated the business card design, created a promotional brochure, new menu, and store signage that included food photography. The deliverables closed with a 12 page brand usage guide. Within 14 months of our engagement and the success of the restaurant and our brand approach Pappalecco opened its second location in Hillcrest.

Optimal Nutrition, Inc. (ONI) specialized in the production and delivery of customized organic meal plans, hydration technology, and organic meal replacement bars. Our goal, to create the indentity and brand foundation to launch this new company. Inspired by ONI’s result-driven approach to a balanced lifestyle, we executed an equally balanced approach to its identity. A bold graphic logo and message of ‘Fresh + Organic + Custom’ reflects a strategy designed to appeal to ONI’s athletic and health-minded clientele.

For ONI, we created a logo and identity system, color palates, typographical guidelines, product packaging, sales collateral, advertisements, coupons, vehicle wrap, and a fully-integrated custom website.

It’s not often that we get an opportunity to create editorial design. To be asked to do so twice for the same publication was a tremendous honor indeed. Create Magazine, a national publication serving creative professionals, asked us to contribute to its editorial pages—bringing to life the feature articles ‘Local Motion’ (which covered local San Diego motion graphic firms), and ‘Projecting the Future’ (spotlighting the local emergence of online video production companies).

For each piece, our editorial design and illustration style took its cues from the story. Create Magazine provided specific guidelines with layout considerations such as word count, number of pages, type usage, colors and printing procedures. Playing off the speed and visual movement of a train graphic and new film technology, we created two very distinct typographical and visual experiences for readers.
